Choose your Module
You will take a Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking test. You can choose between two IELTS modules in the Reading and Writing tests:

• Academic – if you want to study in English at undergraduate or postgraduate level, or seek professional registration.
• General Training – if you want to migrate to an English-speaking country (e.g. Australia, Canada, New Zealand, UK), or wish to train or study in English at below degree level.

All candidates take the same Listening and speaking tests.

There are 4 sections of the exam: Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. It's about 2 hours and 45 minutes long. First, there is the Listening Section in both the Academic and General IELTS, and takes about half an hour. Then in the Reading and Writing Sections, the Academic and General exams are different; both sections will take up to 60 minutes each. In the Speaking section, this is interview with an actual examiner and takes about 11-14 minutes, and it's the same for both Academic and General IELTS. See above for illustration.
